Mount Vintage Golf Club Named To South Carolina Top 30 List

Mount Vintage Golf Club has joined an elite club. In April, the semi-private North Augusta course was named to the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel's 2016-2017 "Top 30 Courses You Can Play List", the only CSRA course to make the list. Read more news on our website.

The North Augusta 27-hole course checked in at No. 22, topping such stalwarts Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head Island (three courses); The Heritage, Prestwick Country Club and Pine Lakes Country Club in the Myrtle Beach area and Cougar Point at Kiawah Island Resort.

Augusta University Announces School of Computer and Cyber Sciences

In light of the $60 million investment the state is making in the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, Augusta University is "upping our game" in cyber and computer sciences programs by creating a new school, President Brooks Keel announced Thursday morning. AU will create the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, making it the university's 10th separate college or school, and will have a national search to find a dean, Keel said.

A former executive with the National Cyber Research Park said the Augusta region has the potential to turn its cyber assets into a $1 billion-a-year industry. G.B. Cazes, former vice president for the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City, La., the anchor facility for the 3,000-acre national research campus, said the Augusta area is "well on its way" to being an international center of cyber education, operations and research and development. The part-time consultant for the CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon was one of several people to brief the Georgia Department of Economic Development on the progress of the "Fort Gordon Cyber District" during the department's board of directors meeting Wednesday in Augusta.

Cyber Center Expected To Have Significant Economic Impact On Augusta Metro Area

Experts expect Augusta’s Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center to help kindle several business and economic opportunities in the Augusta metro area. Just last month, a former executive with the National Cyber Research Park told an Augusta audience that the region’s burgeoning cyber assets could blossom into a $1-billion-a-year industry. “I think this seven-county region is going to look quite different 20 years from now in terms of the types of jobs it has,” said G.B. Cazes. He is former vice president for the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City, La., which anchors the research park. Cazes compared Augusta’s cyber relationship with Fort Gordon to Huntsville, Ala.’s connection with the Army’s Redstone Arsenal. Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park, he said, has had an economic impact on that community of “over $1 billion.”

Mount Vintage Residents ‘Restoring The Tradition’

As Bob Meyer looks around Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club, he is amazed at the transformation made in just a few months.

"The volunteers, not only golf members but residents, do everything from power washing to replacing rotting wood and repainting," Meyer said. "It just goes on and on. The dedication is pretty incredible."

Since the homeowners' association purchased the course in August, a number of improvements have been made to the facilities. The homeowners' association is leasing the course to Golf Gem MV, comprised of golf members and residents, and it is operating the course and overseeing day-to-day operations.
